Two items - 1st, Become an educated consumer before you spend serious money.  Volunteer to crew with a local F5 driver and learn all that you can about the many critical details over one full season.  2nd, Once you have found a car that fits you the best - move any bars that are in your way, adjust the steering wheel and pedals to where you want them and move the seat as needed.  Any gaps get padded.  A good race shop will be a big help unless you can cut/weld yourself then read the GCR on the structure of the formula car.  Been messing with these cars since 1982.
